Directions

WSC is devoted to diverse projects around the single theme of creating a sustainable human society in a sustainable natural environment.
  • Mined-Lands Restoration:  Land use conversion of 90,000+acre mining property adjacent to Salt Lake City, including 'New Urbanist', mixed-use, transit-oriented, walkable communities to absorb a major proportion of future growth in Utah's population center, the Wasatch Front Region.  Climate-appropriate planting, and an on-site nursery to propagate native plant species appropriate to this immense site, received a Governor's Award to the land development company in 2003. (Images) Paper entitled 'Actualizing Sustainable Mining' further developed themes of the integration of natural and economic restoration through Eco-Industrial practices focused on a mine waste, contaminated site as the mine approaches closure
  • China, Eco-Industrial Park and Eco-Planning, Dalian Economic and Technical Development Zone and Dalian City, People's Republic of China.  Proposed an intensive EIP organized around urban and industrial waste metabolism of region. (Images)
  • Eco-Industrial Park planning and feasibility screening for Spencer, WV: a sustainable forestry-based, bio-technologies-based EIP for economic revival in an economically depressed Appalachian area (Images)
  • Agricultural waste management and water contamination prevention study, Ontario, Canada, focused on manure management, best management practices, guidelines for pollution prevention in manure land application, and opportunities for renewable energy recovery from bio-energy technologies.
